Are Power Washing and Pressure Washing the Same Thing?

Almost. The terms are used interchangeably by most people, but there is one major difference: water temperature. Both use high pressure (between 1,500 and 4,000 psi, depending on the needs of the job and the surface being cleaned). But power washing adds a heating element that raises the water temperature to between 150 and 200 degrees. We use power washing for particularly tough jobs, such as destroying mold, mildew, grease, or gum. Check out our blog for more information on how power and pressure washing differ.

Does Water Temperature Really Make a Difference?

In a word, yes. We compare it to the difference between washing your dishes with hot water and cold water. For example, if you’re cleaning a dish with baked-on grease, you need the extra oomph you get with really hot water. We get similar results cleaning really tough stains with power washing instead of pressure washing. Hot water also disinfects surfaces, which is why we use it when attacking a mold or mildew problem.

Spray Washing Heavy EquipmentOnly if you want to maximize its lifespan. Excavators, backhoes, bulldozers – whatever heavy equipment your crews use, it attracts dirt and debris like a magnet. Part of that is the working environment, but it’s also thanks to the grease and oil that keep the machine’s parts lubricated and moving. Over time, all that gunk makes its way into the mechanics of your equipment and slowly destroys it. Adding power washing as part of your regular maintenance goes a long way toward extending the life of your equipment. And your mechanics will thank you when they no longer have to muscle their way through built-up dirt and grease to work their magic.
